Why FPV drones use a capacitor

Soldered across the ESC battery input, the capacitor absorbs short voltage spikes and smooths high-frequency electrical noise produced by the ESC and motors. This can help protect connected electronics, reduce interference in the video feed and provide cleaner power to the flight controller, VTX and camera.

Installation

This is a polarised component. The stripe on the body marks the negative terminal. Solder positive to battery positive and negative to battery negative, as close as practical to the ESC battery pads, with the leads kept short and insulated. Reversing polarity can cause the capacitor to fail or vent.

A fully charged 6S LiPo is 25.2V, leaving nominal headroom below the capacitor's 35V rating. For unusually long battery leads or exceptionally severe transient conditions, a higher-voltage capacitor may be preferable.
